Dragondot 3

The question I'm sure everybody is asking right away is: Do I need to play Dragondot 1 and 2 to fully appreciate Dragondot 3?

I'm pretty sure no, because Dragondot 3 is about being a dragon that is a dot and doing dragon things like breathing fire and biting stuff, which doesn't require much setup.

Dragondot 3 plays a lot like a lite Zelda game: there is a grid-based overworld, you fight other dot-shaped enemies with your claws and fire, look for caves, you find cool upgrades. You're also a dragon, so gold is very important: collect gold and bring it back to your lair to build up your hoard, which is spent on upgrades. Kobolds around the world (and right outside the cave) admire and look up to you, offering healing and tribute and make adorable baby bird-like chirping noises in your presence while following you around.

I honestly didn't really check the clock, but I would say it took me probably about an hour to beat all the bosses and explore the full map - but not buy all the upgrades, which got a bit grindy feeling. It's a decently-sized world with cages and dungeons to check out, and the game is mostly pretty easy... except for the bosses, which ranged from difficult to having to abuse a game mechanic to have enough health to get through it.

Dragondot 3 feels surprisingly in-depth and more involved than what I usually expect out of a PICO-8 game. While the standalone executables cost and are part of what you get out of the bundle (and comes with a world map and the OST!), the web version is free for anyone. If you like a bit of Zeldadventure, give it a shot.

I enjoyed it. Dragondot 3 is a good game.
