Color Jumper

Color Jumper is a platformer in what I recognize as the Super Meat Boy style: it's tough, there's wall-jumps, the controls are kept tight, the stages are measured in seconds, and your death is maybe a half-second interruption before you try again. The main trick to this game is colors: the cube you control has colors on each side, and having the right color facing or pressing against the right thing matters: stomping on enemies or making walls solid (and yes, there's a colorblind setting which adds symbols everywhere).

It's a important point in these sort of games for the controls not to disappoint, and Color Jumper seems to do okay here. I'm having a bit of trouble keeping fully in grips with inertia, since it feels like my movement wants to go to max speed or total stop very quickly but not instantly. I've never felt like my failures were my fault, though - my inability to wall jump while also rotating my square while dodging bullets is not the game's concern. Like with all games of this sort, a well-executed level is both a sight and feeling to behold, as levels seem well-designed to let the fast and skilled flow through them gracefully.

Aside from the usual platforming challenges, the game definitely wants you to replay it: your time taken and also the amount of times you rotate the cube are both recorded, with par times to beat on each level for both numbers. The rotation limit is cute and an extra way to think about the levels in terms of rotation efficiency. There are collectables I've noticed throughout the levels, which apparently unlock additional challenge levels... I'm good, thanks, the regular levels are tough enough, and collecting some of these prizes is downright evil.

With its well-executed gimmick, you'll find in Color Jumper a hardcore platformer that can stand with the best of them. Add this one to the list of bundle games you should check out.

I enjoyed it. Color Jumper is a good game.
